While preppy influence was prominent in spring and summer fashion, it has persisted in fall. Preppy style is quite interpretable. There are various preppy styles, including ivy league, southern, east coast, gossip girl, and more. As someone who grew up in New England, my own style is undoubtedly preppy, and I believe there are many fantastic preppy styles that are also regarded classics. At the same time, my time at Catholic school pretty much ruined khakis, polo shirts, and plaid skirts for me.
Here's the problem about preppy style: you probably already own some of these stuff. Cable knit sweaters, button-down shirts, and navy blazers are just a few of the very fashionable preppy design options. If you're wondering how to accomplish preppy style in fall or looking for ideas, this piece is for you!

How To Do Preppy Style This Fall
What is preppy style? Well, it depends. Are you thinking of Ralph Lauren or Lily Pulitzer? Perhaps Brooks Brothers or L.L. Bean. It's open to interpretation, so I'll share some of my faves and what I'm excited to wear this fall. You can personalize everything in fashion; wear whatever makes you feel comfortable!
Preppy Clothing: Sweater Vests
I've mentioned sweater vests several times because they're one of my favorite autumn trends. They are also ideal for Vermont's current weather conditions. Ideal for layering, especially on days that start chilly but warm up by late afternoon. I adore the sweater vest I purchased from Madewell. This cable knit version by Sézane is also quite stylish.
A navy blazer
A navy blazer is both a preppy staple and a timeless classic. A blue blazer will instantly complete any ensemble, whether it's denim or a slip dress. The Michele Jacket from Sézane is a stunning double-breasted navy jacket with gold buttons that has a slight menswear flavor but is fitted enough not to seem overly huge.
Chic Stripes
I love stripes, especially on sweaters and tees. The Newport tee from my collection is a good choice, with its slightly larger cut and henley button down neckline. The Saint James Meridame Breton striped shirt is another popular choice. The Marin sweater in stripe from my line is a must-have (runs big!).
Button-down shirt
When I think of preppy clothing, I immediately think of a traditional white button-down. Whether you want something baggy with a fitted trouser or tucked into straight leg jeans, this closet essential will not disappoint.
Cable Knit Sweaters
Cable knit sweaters are always a good choice. I especially like this style with a crew neck in cotton or wool. This season, ABLE offers a cotton cable knit crew neck in brown that would look excellent beneath a blue jacket or camel coat. The soft heritage cable knit crew neck from L.L. Bean is composed of organic cotton and comes in a classic ivory color.

Camel coat
A camel coat is one of those things that will remain in your wardrobe for years to come. I have several different styles because I wear them so frequently during the fall and winter. Boden's fitted classic style is incredibly chic, and I love the oatmeal color. Summersalt's eco-wool cocoon coat is another excellent choice.
Straight Leg Jeans
Personally, I prefer straight leg versions with a neat hemline. My ripped denim styles have been collecting dust, and I'm not ready to retire them just yet, but I prefer a more classic and tailored approach to denim right now. I received these straight leg jeans from CQY two winters ago, and they are quite comfy. They wash well and don't become baggy after numerous wears.
Preppy shoes and loafers
Loafers are a popular autumn fashion, but the majority of them are clunky, which I dislike. I've had these pair from Sam Edelman for years, and they're hard to top. They are comfortable right out of the box and look excellent with everything. Rothy's also produces machine-washable loafers made from recycled materials.
Clogs
I'm not sure if clogs are preppy, but they're a popular fall fashion, and I love them. I acquired this pair from M.Gemi, and they are quite comfortable. I really like the platform heel and the backstrap. If you prefer a flat design, this shearling-lined clog from my collection is ideal.
Preppy Accessories: Simple Gold
Classic preppy style revolves around simple gold (or silver) jewelry. The heart necklace from my ABLE line is a simple, delicate design that can be customized. A simple gold bracelet, like this one by Yearly Co, looks quite stylish. The signet pinky ring from Mejuri is delicate and lovely. Speaking of delicate, my Haverhill birthstone bracelet is another favorite that I wear every day.
A stylish straw tote can be worn with jeans and a tee or a dress and blazer. I've been using this one from Sézane every day and have received numerous praises. Etsy has a plethora of adorable styles at a lower price point.
An enormous scarf
An enormous scarf can dress up any ensemble while also keeping you cozy. Even though it's wool, Acne's large scarf is incredibly soft. If you're seeking for cashmere, the White and Warren travel wrap is an excellent choice.
Preppy Outfit Ideas
This fall, my preppy style is all about classics, tailoring, and simplicity. I want to be comfy, and my attire must be functional for toddler life. I enjoy straight leg jeans with basic stripe tees and a navy blazer, or trousers with a striped sweater and clogs. I'm all about less is more with preppy looks for fall.
